What Pro Costs in Year One

Most website packages quote you a build price and go quiet about everything after it. Here is the whole number instead.

What you payAmount
One-time setup$2,500
Monthly service, first 12 months$399 × 12 = $4,788
Total, first 12 months$7,288
Every year after that$4,788

That number is higher than a lot of what you'll find, and I would rather you see it now than in month four. A cheaper one-time build usually buys the design and nothing else. Hosting, security updates, content changes, and search work either get sold back to you later or quietly never happen. With Pro they are the monthly fee, and the monthly fee is the whole ongoing cost. If you're weighing this against a bargain option, what "affordable" actually means for a small business website walks through where those cheaper builds save money and where they cost it later.

The honest version of the trade: if what you want is to pay once, take the files, and never speak to me again, Pro is the wrong shape and I'll tell you that on the phone. If what you want is a site that stays current, stays fast, and has someone answering the text when it breaks, that's what you're buying.

Which One Should You Pick?

You should be able to answer this without calling me first.

What Is Not Included

The part most pricing pages leave out. Nothing here is a trap; it's just work that sits outside the package.

Your domain name. You buy it and it stays in your name. I'll set up the DNS and walk you through it at no extra charge, and you keep it whether you stay with me or not.

Photography. I don't shoot photos. I'll use what you have, source stock where it fits, and tell you honestly when a real photographer would make more difference than anything I could do in code.

Long-form copywriting. I'll shape, cut, and structure what you give me, and write the connective tissue. A site that needs original writing on every page is a Custom conversation.

Big changes after launch. Content edits are covered by the monthly. New pages beyond the quarterly ones, a redesign, or new functionality get quoted in advance, before any work starts.

Ad spend. Google charges you for clicks directly. Management is a separate service; the ad budget is always yours and always visible to you.

Add-ons, if you want them

These attach to any package or stand on their own.

How the Build Goes

Four steps. You talk to the same person at every one of them.

1. Kickoff. A call or a text thread. I ask what you do, who you want calling you, and what the current site is failing at. I tell you which package fits, including when the answer is the cheaper one.

2. Content. This is the step that decides your timeline. I need your logo, photos, service list, hours, and anything you want said in your own words. If you have an existing site, I'll pull what's worth keeping off it.

3. Design and review. I build the real site, not a mockup, and send you a link. Your build fee includes two rounds of revisions at this stage. Most people use one.

4. Launch. DNS points at the new site, analytics and Search Console go on from day one, and your Google Business Profile gets pointed at the right pages.

Most sites are built in one to two weeks once your content is in hand, and go live in two to three. The service agreement allows up to two to three weeks, because the honest variable isn't my speed. It's how fast the content comes back. Launch is the starting line; the monthly plan covers everything after it.

Who Owns What

Nobody else selling websites in Louisville answers this. It's worth answering anyway.

Your content is yours, always. Text, photos, logo, everything you hand me stays yours. That's true from day one and it doesn't depend on you staying a client.

Your domain is yours. It's registered in your name. If we ever part ways, it goes with you.

Your design is yours on full payment. The custom design and content built for you belong to you once the build is paid for.

The underlying framework stays mine. I reuse my own code libraries and build tooling across clients, and those remain my intellectual property. You get a perpetual license to use them as part of your site. In practice this never comes up, but you should know it before you sign rather than after.

I may show your site in my portfolio unless you ask me in writing not to. Ask, and I won't. No hard feelings and no argument.

After 12 months, ownership options become available. If you want to take the whole thing in-house, we have that conversation and I don't hold the site hostage to make you stay.

The full terms are in the service agreement, in plain English, before you pay anything.

What Makes This Different

There are a lot of ways to get a website. Most of them waste your time, your money, or both. Here is how my small business web design packages compare to the alternatives. I build the same way for contractors, restaurants, and healthcare practices, each with the pages and trust signals that industry needs.

Common Questions About Website Packages

Straight answers. If yours isn't here, call or text me and I'll answer it in plain English.

How much does a small business website cost?

Mine: $2,500 to build plus $399/month, which is $7,288 across the first twelve months and $4,788 a year after that. Custom projects start at $7,500 and get quoted individually. Across the wider market a small business site can run anywhere from a few hundred dollars for a template you assemble yourself to five figures for an agency build, so the number on its own tells you very little. What matters is what's bundled into it and what gets billed back to you later.

Is $1,500 a good price for a website?

It can be, if you know what you're getting. At that price you're usually buying design and build only, which means hosting, security updates, content changes and search work are either your job or a later invoice. That's a perfectly reasonable deal if you have someone in-house who will handle the rest. It's a bad deal if the site quietly goes stale for three years, which is the more common ending.

How many revisions do I get?

Two rounds during the design phase, included in the build fee. Most people use one. After launch, content edits are covered by the monthly plan; new pages, a redesign, or new functionality get quoted in advance so nothing appears on an invoice you didn't agree to.

What do I need to give you to get started?

Your logo, any photos you want used, your service list, hours, and anything you want said in your own words. If you have an existing site I'll pull whatever is worth keeping off it. This is genuinely the step that sets your timeline. The build is fast, waiting on content isn't.

Can you redesign the website I already have?

Yes, and that's most of the work I do. If you know you want a rebuild, Pro covers it the same as a new site. If you aren't sure whether it needs a rebuild or a repair, start with the $250 Website Rescue diagnostic and the fee is credited if you book a Rescue Sprint or rebuild within 30 days.

Can you build an online store?

Yes, but not inside Pro. Stores, booking systems, member portals and donation tools are Custom work, scoped and quoted individually, because the honest answer on complexity varies enormously. I've done catalog, Merchant Center and tracking work at real scale. See Preslar's Western Shop.

Is SEO included?

The on-page foundation is included in every build: page titles, meta descriptions, structure, speed, schema, and Analytics and Search Console set up from day one. Pro adds ongoing work: Google Business Profile management, monthly keyword research and optimization, quarterly content pages, and a monthly report. What none of that includes is a promise about rankings, and you should be sceptical of anyone selling you one.

What's included in the monthly fee?

Your monthly fee covers hosting, domain renewal, SSL certificate, security monitoring, software updates, routine content edits (up to two hours a month, which covers most businesses easily), and direct text/email support. I acknowledge requests the same business day, and routine edits usually land within two. There are no surprise charges. Everything you need to keep your site running is included.

Why monthly instead of a big upfront cost?

Most agencies charge large upfront fees, then disappear. My model keeps the upfront cost low and gives you ongoing support, updates, and hosting every month. You get a better site and a real relationship, not a one-time transaction.

What if I want to cancel?

Monthly service runs month to month with a simple service agreement, 30 days notice, and no long-term lock-in. I want you to stay because the service is worth it, not because you're trapped.

Do I own my website?

You always own your domain name, your content, and your images, from day one. The custom design and the code underneath stay part of the service while we work together; the build tooling stays my intellectual property, licensed to you perpetually as part of your site. After 12 months, ownership options become available if you want to take the whole thing in-house. I'll never hold your website hostage.

How long until my site is live?

Most sites go live in 1-2 weeks of build time once your content is in hand, and the service agreement allows up to 2-3 weeks. That's not a typo. Because I'm one person with no layers of management, I can move fast. You'll have a working website before most agencies finish their "discovery phase." Larger builds get a phased timeline. The variable is never my speed, it's how quickly the content comes back. Launch is the starting line, and your monthly plan covers ongoing improvements from there.

What if I need more than 5 pages?

The setup fee covers up to 5 pages. Additional pages are available at a fair rate, and Pro plan clients get new content pages added quarterly as part of their package. I can always add more as your business grows.

Is there a contract?

There's a simple service agreement, so we both know the scope, but no long-term lock-in. You pay month to month, and if you're not happy you can cancel with 30 days notice. No tricks or fine print, and no "but you signed for 12 months." If my work isn't worth the monthly fee, I don't deserve your money.

What if I need something smaller than Pro?

Pro is the public default because most businesses need the site and the local SEO work together. If Pro is more than you need right now, ask me and I'll tell you honestly whether a smaller starting point fits.
