Website Maintenance Services That Actually Make Sense

Your website is live. Now keep it fast, secure, and working for you. Two plans: Care at $250 a month keeps the site alive and safe, Managed at $850 a month puts a person on it every month. No hourly billing, no surprise invoices.

Care $250/month Managed $850/month Louisville And Kentucky

What website maintenance services actually mean

A lot of people search for website maintenance services and get a vague pitch about “care plans” with a long list of line items and hourly overages. That is not how I work. When I say maintenance, I mean I am the person who keeps your site online, current, and useful so you do not have to think about it.

You run the business. I handle the website layer: hosting, domain, SSL, security, backups, content changes, speed checks, and the SEO basics that keep you from quietly falling off Google. You text or email me when something needs to change. I do the work. That is the whole relationship.

It works two ways. If I built your site, maintenance is how we keep it earning its keep. If somebody else built it and you just need a responsible person holding the keys, Care does that on its own, no build required.

The plans and what each one covers are further down this page. Full build packages live on the website packages page, and the bigger monthly tiers live on the retainers page.

What’s included every month

Everything your website needs to stay online, secure, and working properly. No menu of add-ons for the basics. If it is part of keeping the site healthy, it is in the monthly plan.

  • Hosting and domain Modern, fast hosting. Your domain stays registered and pointing to the right place. No cheap shared servers fighting for resources with a hundred other sites.
  • SSL and security Active SSL certificate (the padlock in the browser), security monitoring, and protection so visitors are not hitting scary warning screens.
  • Backups Regular backups of your entire site stored separately from your hosting. If something breaks, I restore it fast instead of rebuilding from memory.
  • Content updates Hours change, prices change, a new service launches, photos need swapping. Text or email me and it gets done same-day or next business day.
  • Performance monitoring Monthly speed tests and optimization. I catch slow-downs before they cost you visitors or quietly hurt your Google rankings. See what's usually behind a slow WordPress site if you want the diagnosis before you call.
  • SEO monitoring I watch Google Search Console, keyword positions, and indexing issues so you stay visible for the searches that matter.

That mix is what most Louisville owners actually need from website maintenance services. Not a bloated WordPress plugin stack. Not a ticket portal. A real person who already knows your site and can make the change without a three-email thread.

What a month of maintenance actually looks like

Most of a good month is invisible. Nothing breaks, nothing expires, and you never think about the website. Here is what is happening behind that quiet.

  • Updates Platform and dependency updates get applied, then checked to make sure nothing moved. On WordPress that is the biggest recurring job of the month. On the static sites I build there is no plugin stack to patch, so the month is quieter and cheaper to keep.
  • Backups Your whole site gets backed up on a schedule and stored separately from the hosting. A backup nobody has ever restored isn’t really a backup, so I restore-test instead of trusting a green checkmark in a dashboard.
  • Uptime Automated monitoring watches the site around the clock and alerts me when it goes down. Most months that alert never fires. When it does, I usually know before you do.
  • Security SSL stays active and renewed, the domain stays registered and pointed at the right place, and I watch for malware and suspicious traffic. An expired certificate is the fastest way to put a full-screen browser warning in front of a customer.
  • The 2 small edits Care includes up to 2 small content edits a month. New hours, a corrected phone number, a swapped photo, a price change. You text me, I do it, usually same day or next business day.
  • The numbers email On Managed you also get a one-page numbers email once a month. Traffic, rankings, what I did, what I would do next. One page you can read in a minute, not a 40-page PDF nobody opens.

You could do every bit of this yourself, and plenty of owners plan to. What actually happens is that it is never the most urgent thing on a Tuesday. So the certificate lapses, the backup was never tested, and the hours on the site have been wrong since March.

Paying somebody is really paying for it to happen on a schedule instead of when you remember. That is the whole argument for hiring it out, and it is the only one I will make.

If you would rather run it yourself, that is a fair call and I already wrote the whole thing down. Here is the checklist if you want to do it yourself, weekly through yearly.

Website maintenance plans: Care and Managed

Two plans. Care keeps the site alive and safe. Managed adds a person doing real work on it every month. Both run month to month on a simple service agreement, and you can cancel with 30 days notice.

What you get Care $250/month Managed $850/month
Hosting, SSL, backups, updates
Uptime and security monitoring
Content edits Up to 2 small edits a month Monthly content and page updates
Google Business Profile management and review generation
Local SEO maintenance and rank tracking
Monthly one-page numbers email
Quarterly in-person visit
Strategy, reporting, calls ✗ None
$250/month
Care

Hosting, SSL, backups, updates, uptime and security monitoring, and up to 2 small content edits a month. No strategy, no reporting, no calls.

This is the floor, and I will not sell it as a growth plan. It is the right fit for a site that already works and just needs a responsible person holding the keys. It is also the plan most people land on when I did not build the site.

$850/month
Managed

Everything in Care, plus monthly content and page updates, Google Business Profile management and review generation, local SEO maintenance and rank tracking, a monthly one-page numbers email, and a quarterly in-person visit.

Pick this one if you want the site to move, not just stay online. Somebody is actually working on it every month, and you get a page of numbers that says what happened.

$399/month
Pro, when I am building the site too

$399/mo = Care + the SEO, GBP and reporting that come with a Pro build.

Pro is the bundle for a new custom site. Setup is $2,500 one time for the build, then $399 a month covers the maintenance and the search work together. It only applies to sites I build. If you already have a site, Care or Managed is your lane.

No hourly billing and no hours commitment. What you get is the plan menu above and the check-in cadence, not a block of hours to spend down.

Need more than the website handled? Products, ads, conversion tracking, and new pages every month live in the retainer tiers, starting with Web Ops at $2,000/month.

Want the build packages, Custom, and Rescue options side by side instead? See website packages and pricing.

What year one actually costs

Monthly numbers are easy to compare and easy to misread. Here is the first twelve months added up, for the two paths most people are choosing between.

New site built by me, then Pro

$7,288 for year one. That is $2,500 one time for the custom build, plus $399/month for twelve months, which is $4,788. Every year after that is $4,788, and it covers maintenance, hosting, the SEO work, Google Business Profile, and reporting.

A site I did not build, on Care

$3,000 for year one. That is $250/month for twelve months with no setup fee. Hosting, SSL, backups, updates, monitoring, and 2 small edits a month. It keeps a working site working, and that is all it claims to do.

Managed on an existing site is $10,200 for the year, which is $850/month across twelve months. That is the tier where somebody is actively working your rankings and your Google profile, not just keeping the lights on.

One honest caveat on taking over a site I did not build. If it is broken, hacked, or the last developer left it tangled, Care is the wrong first step. Start with Website Rescue, get it into a state worth maintaining, then move onto a monthly plan.

What happens without maintenance?

Building a website and forgetting about it is like buying a truck and never changing the oil. It works for a while, then it does not. Here is what is actually at stake when nobody is watching the site.

What You Get With Maintenance Without
SSL certificate active ✗ Expires, Google flags site
Site loads fast ✗ Slows down over time
Content stays current ✗ Wrong hours, old prices
Google rankings hold ✗ Competitors pass you
Someone to call when it breaks ✗ You’re on your own
Domain stays registered ✗ Risk losing your URL

A neglected website is often worse than no website. It tells potential customers you do not care about the details. A customer who calls a disconnected number or shows up during hours you already changed is not coming back. Website maintenance services exist so that does not happen on your watch.

Who this is for

I built this for Louisville-area small businesses that need a reliable website without hiring an in-house web person. If any of these sound like you, we are probably a fit.

You already have a site with me

You are on Pro, or you just finished a build, and you want one person handling updates, hosting, and SEO checks every month without shopping around for a separate “care plan.”

You need a new site plus ongoing care

Setup gets the custom site built. The monthly plan keeps it maintained. That is the clean path for most new clients who want website maintenance services bundled with the build.

Restaurants with menus that change

Restaurants need hours, specials, and menu updates without waiting on a distant agency. Same-day or next-day changes keep the site matching what you are actually serving.

Contractors who cannot babysit a CMS

Contractors should be on job sites, not fighting WordPress. You send me the new service area, photo, or phone number. I update the site while you finish the day’s work.

Healthcare practices that need trust signals

Healthcare sites need accurate bios, services, and intake details. Ongoing maintenance keeps the practice site current so patients are not acting on stale information.

You want one local guy, not a ticket queue

You call or text Hunter. The person who answers is the person who built the site and will make the change. No account managers, no “we’ll escalate that.”

Who this is not for

I would rather point you somewhere useful than sell you a monthly plan that does not fit. Skip this if any of these are true.

The site itself is a mess

If the site is broken, hacked, or abandoned by the last designer, start with a diagnostic, not a maintenance retainer. My Website Rescue path is built for that.

You need a full ops team

If you need product listings, ads hygiene, review replies, and weekly ops check-ins on top of the site, that is a different tier. Look at online operations support.

You want to DIY forever

Some owners love editing their own site. That is fine. If you want full control and no monthly relationship, we may not be the right fit for ongoing maintenance.

What is not maintenance

Maintenance keeps what already exists working. It does not build new things. Here is where I draw the line, so nobody is surprised by an invoice.

A redesign

Rebuilding the look and structure of the site is a project, not a monthly task. If the design itself is the problem, that is a new build or a Rescue Sprint, and you get the number before anything starts. See website packages.

New pages every month

Editing a page is maintenance. Researching, writing, and building new pages every month is marketing work. That lives in Web Ops at $2,000/month, which includes 2 to 4 new SEO pages a month.

New features

Booking systems, carts, client portals, integrations with other software. Those get scoped and quoted as projects. I will tell you it is a project before I start it, not after it is done.

Ads, products, and tracking

Google Ads, product feeds, conversion tracking, and catalog work are operations, not website upkeep. They sit in the Web Ops and Ecommerce Ops tiers, and they are priced there.

The rule I use is simple. If it keeps the site doing what it already does, it is maintenance. If it changes what the site is, it is a project or a bigger monthly tier, and you get the price first.

Real example: Smither Psychiatry

Ongoing updates for a Louisville practice

A practice site that stays current after launch

Smither Psychiatry is a clear example of what website maintenance looks like in the real world. I built the practice site with trust-focused pages and local SEO, then stayed on for ongoing updates so bios, services, and site details do not go stale after launch day.

That is the point of website maintenance services: the build gets you online, and the monthly relationship keeps the site accurate while the practice focuses on patients. If you want to see the before-and-after of a redesign path, the before and after gallery shows how much a neglected site can change once someone owns the work.

How the monthly relationship works

No mystery process. You stay in contact the same way you already run your business: phone, text, or email.

1. You send the change

New hours, a photo, a service description, a phone number swap. Send it however is easiest. I do not need a ticket form.

2. I make the update

Most content updates land same-day or next business day. Bigger changes get a quick scope check so you know what is included versus a larger project.

3. I keep watching the site

Between your requests, I am still monitoring uptime, SSL, speed, and Search Console. Maintenance is not only reactive. It is also the quiet work that prevents emergencies.

4. You get straight answers

If something is wrong, I tell you in plain English. If a request is bigger than normal maintenance, I say so before I start. No surprise invoices.

Need more than the website looked after? The retainer tiers cover products, listings, ads, tracking, and new pages on top of everything on this page.

Common questions

How much does small business website maintenance cost?

Care is $250/month and Managed is $850/month. Neither one has a setup fee on an existing site. If I am building the site too, Pro bundles the maintenance and the search work at $399/month with a one-time $2,500 build fee.

What do your website maintenance plans include?

Care covers hosting, SSL, backups, updates, uptime and security monitoring, and up to 2 small content edits a month. No strategy, no reporting, no calls.

Managed adds monthly content and page updates, Google Business Profile management and review generation, local SEO maintenance and rank tracking, a monthly one-page numbers email, and a quarterly in-person visit.

What is the difference between Care and Managed?

Care keeps the site alive and safe. Managed puts a person to work on it. If your site is fine and you just need somebody responsible holding the keys, Care is honest and enough. If you want the site to gain ground on Google, that is Managed.

I will not sell Care as a growth plan, because it is not one.

Will you maintain a website you did not build?

Usually yes, on Care. I take a look first to make sure the site is in a state worth maintaining and that I can actually get proper access to the hosting, domain, and registrar.

If it is broken, hacked, or the last developer left it tangled, start with Website Rescue instead. Putting a monthly plan on a broken site just bills you every month for a problem nobody fixed.

Do you handle monthly website maintenance for WordPress sites?

Yes, and it is more work than the sites I build. WordPress has a core, a theme, a database, and usually a dozen plugins, and every one of them needs updates that can break something else. If you're doing it yourself in the meantime, how to speed up WordPress and, for stores specifically, how to speed up WooCommerce cover the fixes that actually move the needle.

The sites I build are static HTML. No plugins to patch, no database, no login page for anyone to attack. Same plan price either way, but a static site is genuinely quieter to keep.

How often do you update the website?

Content updates happen same day or next business day when you send them. Security and performance checks happen monthly. Automated monitoring watches the site around the clock and alerts me if it goes down, usually before you notice.

Can I just pay for hosting and skip the rest?

You can buy hosting anywhere for a few dollars a month. That is not maintenance, it is a server. Nobody is renewing the certificate, testing the backups, applying updates, or answering the phone when the form stops sending.

If cheap hosting plus your own attention is genuinely the right call for your budget, take the checklist and run it yourself. I would rather you do that than pay me for something you do not need.

Do I need maintenance if my site is simple?

Yes. Even a simple site needs hosting, SSL, domain renewals, and someone to call when you need a change. The good news is that simpler sites need less active firefighting than complex WordPress sites, so more of the monthly goes toward keeping things running instead of putting out fires.

Can I cancel?

Yes. Month to month on a simple service agreement, no long-term lock-in. Cancel anytime with 30 days notice.

What is not covered by a maintenance plan?

Redesigns, new pages built from scratch every month, new features like booking or a cart, and the operations work around ads, product feeds, and conversion tracking. Those are projects or a bigger monthly tier. See what is not maintenance above, or the retainer tiers.

Alright, Louisville,

Stop Worrying About Your Website

I handle the maintenance so you can focus on running your business. Care at $250 a month or Managed at $850 a month, and you always talk to me.
